Join Group

Often when setting up an Group the admin doesn't know everyone who should or wants to join. In this case the admin can add the Join Group gadget to the home page. Anyone who comes to the Group home page can use this gadget to request membership in the Group. Here are examples of how this can be useful.

  • The admin may be the coach of a team and is recruiting players. The coach can customize and then post this gadget on the Group home page. Players can be directed to the site and use the gadget to provide contact information.
  • The Group is an alumni group from a high school and the admin has not been able to locate everyone in the class. After doing a web search a class member may find the Group, and can sign in using the gadget. Or, friends of the class may want to participate. All they have to do is use this gadget to request membership.

If you are visiting the Group home page.

If you want to join the group, click the text in the gadget and fill out the popup form that appears. At a minimum make sure you provide your name and either a phone number or an email address. And you may want to leave a brief comment so the admin will know why you want to join the group. The admin will get your information and can then get in touch with you.

If you are the Group admin

You will receive a notification of the request. You'll also see a Member Page for the person, with the contact information they provided and with any comments listed in the Admin Notes section of the Member Page. By default the person requesting to join will be assigned the tag New Member Request. (You can customize this tag and also the text that is displayed on the gadget by selecting Edit Join Group Settings from the gadget's menu.
