Directra Build #445

Released on March 20, 2009

Calendars, Games, Practices and More

We made several improvements to make it easier to add, view and edit information on your calendar.

  1. We have renamed the Schedule to the Calendar List. We heard from some users that they were not sure just what the schedule was for. As the new name implies, it presents your calendar data in a list-oriented layout. To avoid confusion, what was previously called the Calendar is now called the Monthly Calendar.
  2. Games now have a Notes field, replacing the Game Recap field. We did this so users will know that they can put information and comments here anytime, not just after the game has been played.
  3. The Calendar and Calendar List home page gadgets now show all details of an event, game or practice, including the Notes field (above). On the Monthly Calendar, hover over the expand icon expand and the notes will appear in a popup. On the Calendar List just click the expand icon expand to display the notes inline, and the collapse icon collapse to hide them.

When viewing the home page some will want to view the Calendar List fully expanded, others will want it collapsed, expanding items manually. To get the behavior you want, on the Design Home Page popup window, check or uncheck the box Auto-expand notes.

  4. We renamed the Note field on game records to Sub-type. See Working with One Game at a Time for a description of all fields.
  5. On the Monthly Calendar and Calendar List you can edit games, practices and events "in place". Just hover over the entry and select Edit in the menu that appears. An edit screen will pop up. Make your changes and click Save, and you'll stay right where you were. No more going to a separate page and having to navigate back to your calendar or schedule.
  6. When specifying a time for a calendar entry and you don't specify AM or PM, Directra will warn you if the time entered is ambiguous. Directra will recognize 24-hour time for afternoon event. For example it will correctly interpret 15:30 as 3:30 PM.
  7. Calendars now correctly export game notes.

Domain Handling

If you have your own domain name, Directra can handle all DNS services for that domain. This can save you the trouble of correctly configuring the information at your domain registrar to point to the Directra web and email servers. Also, Directra will automatically update your domain's DNS entries whenever we move or reconfigure our servers.

To use Directra's DNS service, log in to your domain registrar account and change your name servers to ns1.directra.com and ns2.directra.com. With this change, the information published by Directra's nameserves will supersede the information you previously published at your registrar.

The Directra name servers publish the following information:

  • A records for <domain> and www.<domain> which point to the directra web server. For example, if you have the domain mydomain.com, then in any web browser you can enter mydomain.com or www.mydomain.com to bring up your Directra web site.
  • MX records which point to the Directra mail servers. This means Directra will handle email routing for all email sent that uses your domain name.

Other Enhancements and Bug Fixes

  1. We added hover tips in several places so it's clearer when an action is available and what the action is.
  2. We added Water Polo as a sports template.
  3. Directra was displaying all files on the home page, ignoring the limit set by the admin.
