Related Groups

Overview

Often individual Groups represent teams, clubs or other groups that are part of a larger organization. Directra allows you to define the hierarchical relationships between such groups. Higher-level Groups (parent Groups) can create or include other Groups (child Groups) which, while Groups on their own, are also connected to the higher-level Group. Here are some examples:

  • A children's soccer club consists of several teams. The club is the top-level Group. The teams are individual Groups with all of Directra's Group features (team record, roster, calendar and more). But their relationship with the club allows team records and other information to appear as part of the club Group.
  • A school may be created as a top-level Group, under which are clubs, athletics and other organizatons, each of which is an Group. The Clubs Group can then itself have individual club Groups related to it and the Athletics Group can have individual teams related to it. In this case the Clubs and Athletics Groups are parent groups (they are connected to individual clubs and teams) and child groups (they are part of the school Group).

The admin of the top-level Group can add member Groups either by creating them or by adding existing Groups. To enable this capability, do the following

  1. On the Settings tab select Group Settings. In the Template section check the box Can Create Groups. You can also specify the type of Groups that will be created.
  2. On the Settings tab select Configure Features and make sure Related Groups is checked.
  3. On the Settings tab select Edit Group Home Page and place the Related Groups gadget on your Group home page. All options for creating and using Related Groups are availble from the home page gadget. However ...
  4. If you don't want to use the home page gadget, click the Features tab, select Related Groups and use this page to create and maintain Groups related to your Group.
  5. On the home page gadget or the Related Groups page use the Options menu to create, add and edit related Groups.
    • Edit Options: Edit the title or name of the gadget. For example, instead of Related Groups (the default name) you might want to use something specific, like "Clubs". You can also specify whether the parent igroup and child Groups will be displayed or hidden. (This option is also available on the Edit Group Home Page dialog, available on the Settings tab.).
    • Assign Parent Group: Select one or more Groups to be the parent Group for your Group. To assign a parent Group you must be an administrator for that Group. If you're not then contact the admin of the parent Group and have them add your Group as a child.
    • Create New Group: Create a new Group which will be a child of this Group.
    • Add Existing Groups: Add child Groups by selecting one or more existing Groups from the list of Groups for which your are an admin.
    • Once you've added a parent or child Group, its name appears in the gadget. Click on an Group name to open that Group. Hover over the Group name and select Edit Group Info to update information for that Group while remaining in the current Group.
      Note

Child Groups are indented slightly, so you can distinguish them from parent igroups. Teams are organized by season and display the team record.
