Sending a Text Blast

A text blast allows you to send an SMS message to selected members of your Group. You can send a text blast from Directra or from your phone.

Enabling Text Messaging in Directra

Group members must specify their mobile phone number in order to receive Directra text messages. Edit the Contact Information section of your Member Page, add a mobile phone number, and check the Text box to allow blasts to be sent to this phone.

The Group admin creates tagged member lists that include Group members who have enabled Directra messaging. See Tags in Directra for details.

From any mobile phone, use the blast command, specify the tagged member list, add your message and send it all to the Directra short code, 45997. Details are in Using Your Phone for Sending Text Messages.

Viewing the Results of your Blast

If you're sending the blast from Directra, as soon as you click Send the Blast a pop-up screen will display the progress of your blast. When you complete a text blast, either from the Directra web site or from your phone, you will receive an email message detailing the results of your blast. You can also use the Blasts home page gadget or click View Blasts on the Comms tab to review the status of individual blasts. See Viewing Blast Results for details. After you send a blast from a smart phone, click Blasts to see a summary of the results. When you send a text blast from any other type of mobile phone, Directra will also send a short text message to the phone summarizing the results of the blast.

Text Blast Replies

Replying to the message opens a two-way chat session between the recipient and the sender. The recipient can use this to ask questions, provide comments or feedback, or whatever reason one might have for communicating directly with the sender. The "conversation" is strictly between the recipient and the sender. Note that this only works if text blast replies are sent to the sender's phone, not the sender's email address.
