What Caller ID is Used When I Make a Call?

When you use the phone to communicate with your Group - sending a call blast, using click-to-call or using directory dial - any person who has caller ID enabled on their phone will see who the call is from. You can control what number they see when they receive a call from you.

To control the caller-ID you must be logged in, so Directra knows who you are. From the web, log in from your Group home page. From your phone, call the Directra number (760-291-8097) and follow the prompts. See Logging In to Directra Using Your Telephone for details.

Here's how Directra determines the caller-ID for calls you make using the Directra phone system.

  1. For click-to-call, Directra uses the callback phone number you enter on the click-to-call web form.
  2. For directory dial, Directra uses the phone number from which you called in.
  3. For a call blast from your phone, Directra uses the phone number from which you are calling.
  4. For a call blast from your Group's web site, Directra uses the From: phone number you enter on the call blast form.

For click-to-call and directory dial, Directra will reveal a number only if it is marked Visible on your member page. If the number you are using is marked Protected, Directra will select a generic number to use for the caller ID instead of your protected number. Directra will use your Group's phone number, if one has been assigned. Otherwise, it will use the general Directra phone number.

At present, Directra will not protect phone numbers used for call blasting. We will change this in an upcoming release, and protect call blast numbers the same way click-to-call and directory dial numbers are protected now.

Important

Except as described above, Directra will always reveal your phone number via caller ID when you place calls through our system. This is true even if you have disabled caller ID at your phone company.

Note: In a call blast, if the calling number is also in the list of phone numbers that will be called by the blast, then Directra will use the general phone number as the caller ID when calling this number. This is because some cell carriers won't let a call proceed if the caller number is the same as the callee number.
