Configure Your Group

Before you add members and information to your Group, you should take a few minutes to make sure your Group is configured as you want. Click the Settings tab and select Group Settings.

Note

You don't really need to do any of this, if you just want to jump in with both feet and use Directra's default settings. But here are some things you might consider.

  • Group Properties (Setup Section): Getting your Group name right is important. The Long Name will appear at the top of every web page, along with the Description. The Short Name is used to to identify your Group when making a call blast from your phone. If you are going to track family relationships, check the box Allow Family Relationships. Finally, select your Group's time zone from the drop-down list.
  • Template (Setup Section): Select the type of Group you have from the drop-down list.
    Note for Sports Teams

Select your sport from the Template list. If you don't see your sport, use Sports. If you have a youth sports team and will be including parents as members, check the box Show Parent's names on the Roster?.

  • Logo (Web Site Section): Upload an image that identifies your Group. It will be displayed at the top left corner of your web pages.
  • Features (Features Section): Check all the features that you will use. You might want to check them all, and then remove some later if they're not being used. Most features will appear as tab entries on the menu and will have their own web page.
  • Default Access: After you select the features you will use (above) then for each feature you can specify if it is available to anyone who comes to your web site (public access), or is available only to Group members after they log in (members-only access).

There are a couple of things to note. First, member contact data is always for members only and is never available to the public. Second, if you open a feature to the public, you may still restrict viewing of specific items. For example, you may make the Photos feature public, but each photo can be marked either Public or Members Only.

  • Home Page Layout (Home Page Section): With your features selected you can select those that will be displayed on your Group home page. At this point you may not be sure of the best layout for your home page. You can always revisit this as your Group grows. Actually, a better way to do this is to select Home Page Layout after clicking the Settings tab.
  • Domains (Web Site Section): If you have your own domain name, enter it here. Also check the subdomain name that Directra has automatically assigned to your Group. If it's not what you want, you can change it here.
  • Email Properties (Members Section): If you want, Directra will automatically assign a routing address to each of your Group members. If you don't want to do this now, but later decide to take advantage of this feature, you can use the Assign Email Address command.
  • Default Contact Information (Members Section): This determines the default privacy settings for each new Group member you add. These settings depend entirely on your Group. If you have a local youth sports team, then you will probably want email address and phone to be visible. In other cases you may want this information protected or even unlisted.
